The GIANTS have welcomed the Sydney Thunder to Spotless Stadium as they prepare for their first Big Bash game at the venue.

Cricket will be played at the GIANTS’ home ground for the first time on Friday night when the Thunder take on the Hobart Hurricanes at Sydney Olympic Park.

It’s the first of two home games the Thunder will play at Spotless Stadium this Big Bash season and with the Thunder sitting in fourth place after two wins from their first four games, they will be eyeing a top-four finish to make the finals for the first time.

GIANTS co-captain Phil Davis and star forward Jeremy Cameron joined Aiden Blizzard and Chris Hartley from the Thunder to have a close look at the first ever cricket pitch at the Stadium this week.

“It was a strange sight to see a cricket pitch where the centre square usually is on the ground,” said GIANTS co-captain Phil Davis.

“But we’re really excited to have the Thunder play here on Friday night. Spotless Stadium is voted by the fans as the best stadium in Australia and with a big crowd here on Friday night the atmosphere will be unbelievable.

“It’s great to have such a strong relationship with another sporting organisation and we’ve really got to know the Thunder players well having had them train and work out of our Learning Life Centre over the past few months.

“I’d encourage all GIANTS fans to come out and help us support the Thunder boys on Friday night.”

The Thunder play two home games at Spotless Stadium this month before the cricket pitch is replaced by an AFL field when the GIANTS host Essendon in a NAB Challenge match in the first Friday night game at the venue on March 13.

The Thunder take on the Hurricanes this Friday, January 9 at 7.10pm at Spotless Stadium before their last home game of the season against the Melbourne Stars on Saturday, January 17.

Tickets for both matches can be purchased at sydneythunder.com.au.
