The GIANTS are excited to announce that they’ve secured the future of highly sought-after young ruck Nick Madden who has penned a new four-year deal with the club.
Originally due out of contract at season’s end, Madden has bypassed the advances of multiple clubs to recommit his future to the GIANTS where his new deal will see him remain in orange and charcoal through until the end of the 2030 season.
Still just 22 years old, the hulking 204cm ruck has particularly impressed across the last 18 months where his mix of size, athleticism, and ruck craft have made him an exciting player for the future.
A product of the GIANTS Academy, Madden joined the club via the 2022 Rookie Draft where his development under the guidance of ruck coach Shane Mumford led to some eye-catching VFL form across the 2024 season before his season was cut short with a lengthy ankle injury.
Madden, who hails from Osborne in New South Wales’ Riverina region, returned from injury in 2025 as determined as ever where he continued to star at VFL level to earn himself an AFL debut against the Power in Canberra in round 13.
The ultra-competitive young ruck went on to play three AFL games in 2025 and another three earlier this season before being sidelined with a PCL strain suffered in the win over the Kangaroos in round seven.
Madden has since returned to full health and is due to return to the action this weekend.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said he was delighted to secure Madden’s future at the club.
“It’s fantastic to have Nick commit to the club for the next four years,” McCartney said.
“Ruckmen often take a bit longer to develop but we’re really pleased with where he’s already at and it’s exciting to see how much more he can grow over the coming years.
“He’s got a great hunger to compete, which paired with his size and his skillset makes him a really promising player.
“He’s also a terrific young fella who is highly valued by his teammates and our football program, so we’re really happy thrilled that he sees his future here at the GIANTS.”
