Draftee Darcy Jones has torn his ACL, with the small forward to meet with a surgeon this week.

Jones was drafted at pick 21 in the most recent draft, with the West Australian showing impressive signs across pre-season before being sidelined with minor shoulder and quad issues.

The 19-year-old made his return in the VFL on Saturday but unfortunately seriously injured his knee while changing direction to evade a tackle.

Tests on Saturday indicated an ACL tear with subsequent scans confirming the sad news.

GIANTS General Manager of Football Jason McCartney said the club is devastated for the youngster.

“It’s really bad luck for Darcy,” McCartney said.

“Unfortunately it’s just one of those things that happens in football and we’ll wrap our arms around Darcy and give him all the support he needs at this tough time.

“He’s made a great impression on our group already in the short time he’s been at the club. He’s a wonderful person and he’ll be a great player for our football club.”

There was a clean bill of health across the rest of the VFL as well as the AFL game with Lachie Whitfield and Josh Kelly returning from concussion protocols and Phil Davis returning from an ankle injury in the VFL.

Midfielder Xavier O’Halloran has returned to training following a quad injury and is due to play his first game of the season this weekend.

The GIANTS take on Essendon on Sunday at Marvel Stadium in the AFL while the VFL side take on Coburg in Melbourne on Saturday.
