It’s the news that no footballer wants to hear but for Leeton’s Kurt Aylett, tearing his ACL on the eve of his first season in the AFL was gut wrenching.
Aylett had joined the GIANTS and moved to Sydney as a NSW zone selection player in 2011 and faced the prospect of a year on the sidelines after a full knee reconstruction.
After eleven months of grueling rehabilitation and an attitude that GIANTS Welfare Manager Craig Lambert describes as one of the best he’s ever seen from a young, recovering athlete, Aylett is back out on the field.
Over five games, Aylett has produced a number of impressive performances for the UWS GIANTS in the NEAFL, helping the side to victory against Sydney University on the weekend and is now pushing for senior selection in 2012.
“It was pretty tough in rehab but it’s great to be back playing now,” Aylett said.
“I’ve played five games now and I’m starting to adapt to the soreness aspect of the game. I’m just really enjoying being back out playing footy.”
