Young forward Zach Sproule and midfielder Xavier O’Halloran are set to be sidelined following injuries in a NEAFL practice match on Saturday.

The GIANTS thrashed the Canberra Demons at Tom Wills Oval on Saturday in a pre-season tune up but both Sproule and O’Halloran failed to finish the game after sustaining injuries.

Fifth-year forward Sproule suffered a grade two medial collateral ligament strain which will sideline him for four to six weeks.

Sproule suffered the same injury during the 2019 season but on his opposite knee.

The tall forward made his AFL debut in round 22 last season.

Second-year midfielder O’Halloran will miss around a month with a low grade syndesmosis strain in his ankle.

After an injury-interrupted 2019 season, O’Halloran impressed in his Marsh Community Series appearance against the Swans at Blacktown.

The GIANTS squad will have a hit-out on Saturday before preparing for the start of their seasons.

The AFL side will take on the Cats in a double-header at GIANTS Stadium on March 21 while the NEAFL team will play a practice match against Sydney University at Tom Wills Oval on the same day.
