The GIANTS are delighted to announce that star midfielder Tom Green has signed a new two-year contract extension with the club.
Originally out of contract at the end of the 2027 season, Green has turned away rival interest to put pen to paper on a new two-year deal that will see the 25-year-old remain in orange and charcoal through until at least the end of the 2029 AFL season.
Already one of the league’s best midfielders and still yet to enter the prime of his career, Green’s decision to forego rival offers and remain a GIANT for at least the next three years is a testament to the future he sees at the club.
Green’s signature comes as he prepares to return to the field with a bang in 2027 after missing the entire 2026 season with a ruptured ACL suffered at training in February.
Drafted out of the club’s Academy with pick 10 in the 2019 Draft, Green has since established himself as one of the league’s most dominant inside midfielders, with his clean hands and ability to win the ball in traffic making him a star of the competition.
Prior to his ACL injury, Green further cemented himself as one of the competition’s elite players, taking out the 2025 Kevin Sheedy Medal after a career-best campaign.
His brilliant 2025 season saw Green lead the entire competition in contested possessions (15.4) and ground ball gets per game (10.1), finish second in the league in clearances per game (8.3), and fifth in both average (29.5) and total disposals (660). This came after a stellar 2024 campaign which saw Green finish fifth in the Brownlow Medal.
A vital part of the club’s leadership group, Green’s return to the field in 2027 will see him help form a mouthwatering midfield trio alongside fellow stars Finn Callaghan and Clayton Oliver.
GIANTS Chief Executive Officer, David Matthews, was thrilled to secure Green’s coveted signature, with the new deal landing on the same day that Matthews’ 15-year tenure with the club officially comes to an end.
“Tom is a very important leader of our footy club and ensuring he’s a GIANT for the next three years is a fantastic result,” Matthews said.
“Tom has been a GIANT since joining our Academy in Canberra and since then he’s personified exactly what it means to be a GIANT, both on and off the field, and to have him remain a GIANT amid such rival interest is a profound moment for us as a club.
“Tom embodies everything that the GIANTS stand for and to have him recommit to the club is really significant as we enter what is a really exciting time for the club.
“While his football speaks for itself as one of the best players in the competition, he’s also an incredible leader and a terrific person who set the standard for his teammates around him.
“Tom helps form a really exciting core of leaders at our club and his decision to stay at the GIANTS is going to be an immensely popular one across his teammates and the whole club.
“While it was unfortunate to see him miss the entire 2026 season, the way he’s attacked his rehab is first class as you’d expect, and following this news we can’t wait to see him back out there next year doing what he does best.”Â
