The GIANTS have locked down two exciting young players, with the club’s top pick of the 2025 AFLW Draft, Scarlett Johnson, re-committing to the club for two more seasons before playing her first game in orange and charcoal.
Already secured through to the end of the 2027 season, Johnson’s extension will see her remain with the club until at least the end of the 2029. AFLW season.
Johnson was dealt a severe blow in the pre-season, rupturing her ACL during a practice match against the Lions, which ruled her out for the entirety of the 2026 NAB AFLW Season.
The utility’s re-signing, before having even played a game, highlights her commitment to the club and belief in the direction of the program.
Johnson joins lockdown defender and local Sydney product Caitlin Fletcher, who has accepted a one-year extension at the GIANTS, taking her through to the end of the 2027 season.
Fletcher featured in all but one game throughout the 2026 AFLW Season, after missing the majority of her debut year due to injury.
Recruited from the Parramatta Goannas in the AFL Sydney competition, the extension comes following Fletcher’s significant growth in her game, with her two best career performances coming in round 11 and 12 of this season.
She played a critical role in minimising the damage of Gold Coast’s key forward Havana Harris, in round 12, taking five intercept marks and restricting the star forward to just one major for the match.
Both Johnson and Fletcher represent the GIANTS’ young core of players, key to the club’s successful development over the coming seasons.
Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zellcongratulated the duo on their continued impact at the club.
“Before she has even played a game with us, Scarlett has been an incredible contributor to club culture and the standards that she has driven through her rehabilitation has been phenomenal” Zell said.
“We are thrilled to have her commit to the program for the next three years and can’t wait to have her out driving those same standards on the training track and football field in 2027.
“Caitlin is also a player who has gone from strength to strength in 2026 and finished the season really well, so we look forward to seeing her continuing that development into next year.
“These two players are an important part of what we are building at the GIANTS and to have them both commit to our future is very exciting.”
