Exciting youngster Phoenix Gothard will work with the club’s medical team to determine the best course of action for his recovery after dislocating his shoulder in Saturday’s thrilling win over the Cats.
Gothard met with a specialist on Tuesday, with a decision on his recovery plan and timeline to be made in the coming days.
Meanwhile, defensive veteran Lachie Whitfield is on track to return to Adam Kingsley’s side this weekend when they take on the Bombers at Marvel Stadium.
Whitfield is required to complete the final stages of the AFL’s concussion protocols over the coming days before being cleared to play.
Max Gruzewski (knee) and Finn Davis (quad) could also return to the action this weekend should they continue their expected trajectory for the remainder of the week.
Jake Riccardi (ankle) and Ollie Hannaford (foot) will begin their respective returns to team training this week to rebuild their game-based training and conditioning.
Darcy Jones continues his participation in unrestricted team training as he looks to complete a consistent block of training while responding well to increased training loads.
Jack Buckley has received further intervention on his calf concerns with the results of the treatment and his to return to play timeline to be determined next week.
The timelines for Brent Daniels (calf), Jesse Hogan (finger) and Leek Aleer (groin) are still to be determined.
Daniels and Hogan are both healing well, while Aleer continues to manage adductor soreness.
Meanwhile, the club’s medical team has officially ruled Josh Kelly out of the 2026 season.
Kelly continues to make great progress following major hip surgery and is aiming to be available for round one of the 2027 season.
The GIANTS will travel to Melbourne this weekend to take on the Bombers at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
