Two key GIANTS will miss this week’s match at the MCG, with Jesse Hogan and Jayden Laverde sidelined through injury, while several teammates edge closer to a return.
Hogan will undergo surgery this week after suffering a fractured finger in Saturday’s loss to the Blues.
While Laverde will miss the next month of football after suffering a low-moderate grade hamstring strain in the second quarter of Saturday’s game.
In positive news, Max Gruzewski (hand) has progressed quicker than initially expected and will be a test for this Friday’s encounter with the Hawks.
Young ruck Logan Smith could play his first game of footy for the 2026 season. The 19-year-old has been managing patella tendinopathy and has responded well to recent intervention to train at the level required for consecutive weeks.
Reliable defender Jack Buckley continues to advance in his recovery from a hamstring injury and is expecting to be available in 1-2 weeks.
Midfielder Toby McMullin continues to present hamstring soreness so will remain on a modified training program.
Emerging ruck Nick Madden will continue to increase his minutes in team training as he rebuilds his conditioning following four weeks in a knee brace for a PCL injury.
Xavier O’Halloran will increase his speed and change of direction training this week.
Darcy Jones will continue to rebuild his participation in team training following an arthroscope to clear some scar tissue.
Youngster Ollie Hannaford will remain in a moonboot until at least Friday as he manages a bone stress injury and Jake Riccardi will begin running mechanics this week, following his syndesmosis surgery nearly four weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Nathan Wardius has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to persistent lateral meniscus symptoms, impacting his progress of rehabilitating his left knee ACL injury.
The GIANTS will travel to Melbourne later this week to take on the Hawks at the MCG on Friday night.
