The GIANTS have added five players to their extended squad for Sunday’s Sydney Derby, with a potential debutant amongst the host of inclusions.
Forward duo Max Gruzewski and Callum Brown, defenders Leek Aleer and Joe Fonti, as well as exciting untried draftee Josaia Delana have all been added to the 26-man squad to take on the Swans.
All five additions have earnt their spot in the extended squad following strong form for the club’s undefeated VFL side.
Gruzewski and Brown are looking to return to the AFL side after having both featured in the team previously this season, while Aleer and Fonti are aiming to make their first AFL appearances of the season on the back of consistent form in the VFL.
Meanwhile, Delana could make his AFL debut on Sunday, with the exciting small forward from Western Sydney in contention for selection when the final team of 23 is named on Friday.
The GIANTS will make at least two changes for Sunday’s game, with star vice-captain Josh Kelly (injury) and Conor Stone (omitted) both out of this week’s side.
Kelly will miss the Sydney Derby due to hip joint aggravation.
The vice-captain is expected to be sidelined for the next 3-4 weeks as he reduces his training load to allow the discomfort to settle.
The GIANTS’ final team of 23 will be confirmed at 5pm on Friday following the club’s main training session.
The GIANTS and their crosstown rivals will face off in Sydney Derby XXX on Sunday at 1:10pm at the SCG.
