Young gun Xavier O’Halloran has extended his time at the GIANTS, signing a two-year contract extension.

The extension will take the 2018 first-round pick into his seventh season in the orange and charcoal.

Since debuting in 2020, the former midfielder has continued to gained momentum across his first few years in the system and has relished the opportunity under new Adam Kingsley.

A quad injury delayed his start to the 2023 season but since returning in round six, the 23-year-old has showcased his ability to be a gamechanger in his new-look role in the GIANTS’ forward 50.

From his 12 games this season, the enigmatic forward has recorded a career-high 11 goals, whilst averaging 14 disposals and three tackles a game.

As he closes in on 50 games for the club, his 2023 form had seen him become a regular in the GIANTS’ 22 with only a dislocated thumb in round 17 sending him to the sidelines.

The X factor - by name and nature – said he is looking forward to his future in the orange and charcoal.

“I’m really enjoying my footy here at the club and can’t wait to continue that for the next two years,” O’Halloran said.

“It’s been a pretty good start to our year as club, but I've also had some personal success, so I'm looking forward to build on all of that.”

The 45-gamer signed a one-year deal at the end of last year but has taken his opportunity with both hands this season, rewarded with the multi-year re-signing.

“I came in with a fresh mindset, with a new coach it felt like everyone was kind of starting on a clean state, which I suppose was good for me,” he said.

"I just wanted to train hard and work my way back into the team. It’s been nice to have opportunity again and build some consistency.

“I feel really comfortable in my new role and know what I need to go out and deliver.”

Sidelined for the next five weeks with a thumb injury, O’Halloran is looking to maintain his fitness to remain ready to return to the side at the back end of the season.

O’Halloran’s commitment comes off the back of dashing half-back Lachie Ash also re-signing with the GIANTS this week.

The GIANTS take on the Suns at Manuka Oval on Sunday at 1:10pm.
