The fixture for the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s season has been updated as a result of current border restrictions, with the GIANTS to play both Western Australian teams while based in their Adelaide hub.

Rounds one and two of the 2021 season have been announced, with the remaining rounds to come over the coming weeks.

The GIANTS will open their season by travelling from Adelaide to Western Australia to take on the Fremantle Dockers at Fremantle Oval on Sunday, January 31.

The GIANTS will then take on the West Coast Eagles in round two in Adelaide, where the GIANTS are currently in a hub.

The round two match will nominally be a GIANTS home game but the GIANTS will not lose the right to host five home games across NSW and the ACT, as previously determined prior to the fixture update.

As a result of border closures, the GIANTS relocated to Albury in southern NSW on January 1 before moving to Adelaide last week.

The GIANTS will be based in Adelaide until at least the end of round two.

GIANTS Head of Women’s Football Briana Harvey said: “After a tumultuous past few weeks, we’re all excited to get the season underway.

“We understand the changes to the fixture are necessary due to the current border situations and appreciate the AFL working with us to reduce additional travel considering we’ve been away from home for three weeks already and having relocated twice so far.

“Our players and staff have made enormous personal and professional sacrifices to ensure the season gets underway for the entire competition.

“We’re desperate to return home as soon as possible and be able to play in front of our home fans. in the meantime we’re looking forward to a strong start to the season against Fremantle.”
