Club legend Toby Greene’s career as a GIANT is officially over, with the 33-year-old joining Geelong as an unrestricted free agent on the first day of the 2026 AFL Free Agency Period on Friday.
The GIANTS will receive a second round selection, currently pick 26, in the upcoming 2026 Telstra AFL Draft as compensation following Greene's departure to Geelong.
Greene leaves behind an almost unmatched legacy at the GIANTS, with the star forward to go down as one of the greatest players in club history.
An inaugural GIANT selected with pick 11 in the 2011 National Draft, Greene spent 15 seasons in orange and charcoal where he established himself as a star of the competition and one of its fiercest competitors.
Greene departs the GIANTS with his name etched in the club’s record books, sitting first in games played for the club with a tally of 282 games, as well as leading the club’s all-time goalkicking tally with 450 majors.
Joining the club for its maiden season as a teenager out of Victoria’s Wesley College, Greene quickly became one of the faces of the GIANTS where he went on to be named co-captain in 2022 before being appointed sole captain ahead of the 2023 season, a position he held for four seasons.
Greene ends his time with the club as a two-time Kevin Sheedy Medallist, a four-time All Australian – including captain of the 2023 All-Australian side - as well as a four-time club leading goalkicker.
Alongside his impressive resume, Greene leaves behind an indelible mark on the club’s culture as an inaugural GIANT who led the club with passion, care, and an unwavering desire to get the best out of himself and his teammates.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, thanked Greene for his contribution to the club.
“Toby has been an incredible part of this football club for 15 years and we’ll never lose sight of what he’s given to the GIANTS,” McCartney said.
“While we’re disappointed that his journey with us has come to an end, we’re also incredibly proud of what he achieved and the role he played in helping build this club.
“An inaugural player at the club, Toby arrived at the GIANTS as a teenager and grew into a remarkable leader who not only performed at the highest level but just as importantly, he helped shape the club into what it is today.
“While again it’s difficult to see him go, we respect Toby’s decision to return home to Victoria and we thank him for the enormous contribution he made to the club.
“Toby gave us, and our members and fans, so many great memories and he’ll forever be an important part of the club’s history.”
The GIANTS would like to thank Greene for his incredible service and contribution to the club over 15 years.
