Phil Davis, Sam Jacobs and Alison Zell have caught up for the latest edition of ‘The Footy Phil’, live from the GIANTS’ WA hub.

As the team settles into a new home at Crown Promenade for the next 14 days of quarantine, Phil and Sam reflect on some key moments from the win over the Bombers.

Phil details what he was thinking when he was swung forward at half-time of Friday night’s game.

“Usually Spike (Mark McVeigh) walks out, sits down … and then he’s like miming to me.

“He’s miming 'forward' and I’m looking behind me thinking is he talking to Keeffey or Haynesy?

“Then he’s like, Phil go forward. And I’m like whoah.

“Instantly I’m like am I in trouble? … Have I been that bad?

“I just went through in my head the five or six structural things I remember from the meetings and then I double checked a couple of them with Jezza (Cameron) afterwards.

“Then I was like, sweet. I know exactly what I don’t want as a back. I was kind of excited.

“The only thing I was disappointed was is that one, we were playing quite badly and two, it was wet so I wasn’t thinking I’m going to kick eight … but I definitely wasn’t going to get out-marked.”

The boys also touch on the controversy surrounding the free kick paid to Callan Ward in the final minutes of the game.

Ward was ambushed by abusive comments on Instagram in the wake of the match with Davis calling the trolls “cowards”.

“To me, there is no doubt about it he did not stage,” Phil said. “There was no element of staging whatsoever.

“For anyone to wish ill upon anyone else, let alone the ultimate ill of death and commenting on a player’s wife’s photos of their children, this is disgraceful human behaviour.”

Phil also gives us an update on his knee and his chances of playing in Thursday night’s Sydney Derby at Optus Stadium.

“Scans were pretty good, there’s a little bit there but I think I’m a chance for Thursday.”
