With every man and their dog glued to their television closely monitoring each kick, handball and mark over the weekend, it’s clear the 2010 Dreamteam competition is in full swing.

It is always hard to pick a quality 22-man squad for the first game of the season but somehow, those lucky coaches out there manage to push the 2000 mark with some well crafted selections.

With plenty of high scoring players coming from all over the field on the weekend, it was a case of "I’m glad I picked him" and "I knew he was going to have a good season…definitely should have selected him" for many coaches out there.

Leading the scoring in Round 1 was Essendon’s Brent Stanton who produced a remarkable 145 DT points against last year’s premiers Geelong. Collingwood’s Dane Swan has been known to find the football on the odd occasion and his 143 DT point effort against the Western Bulldogs was a pretty sight to see for the coaches that could afford his high price tag.

But the star of the week was Fremantle debutant Michael Barlow who racked up a whopping 128 DT points – not too bad for a player valued at only $105,800.

So with all of the highs and lows from round one – who are the Team GWS Dream Team Leaders, did the AFL superstars live up to expectation?

Tom Harley’s Redsox managed to notch up a strong score of 1992 followed closely behind by Paul Kelly, whose Wagga Warriors produced a competitive score of 1830. New to DT this year is rugby league convert Grant Mayer whose score of 1141 indicates he is on the right to track to building a DT empire in the coming years.

Leading the Team GWS DT Competition is Franc Vescio who posted 2206. Congratulations Franc.

Good luck for round two Dreamteamers… a week is a long time in football!
