Round 9
Team GWS v Dandenong Stingrays
Sunday Jun 6
1:30pm
Blacktown Olympic Park (Oval 2)
Greater Western Sydney is back at Blacktown Olympic Park, this Sunday taking on second placed Dandenong Stingrays for the first time this season.
??Coming off a disappointing loss to the Northern Knights last week, Team GWS will be looking to improve their form on Sunday, in what is a big weekend for the club.
??Blacktown Olympic Park will host the National Championships, with nine Team GWS players being selected to play for the NSW Rams on Saturday at Blacktown, from 10am.?With this in mind coaches Alan McConnell and Brett Hand have named four debutants this week.
James Lewington and Tim Wales have been fighting injury this season and are making their first appearance for GWS after coming through their rehab programs, while David Cummings and Sam Milne will be looking to impress in their first hit outs for the club. ?
?With the Stingrays looking to be one of the form teams in the competition, the boys will need to be switched on in what is sure to be a wet encounter.
??“The boys ability to have consistent, good use of the footy, decreasing turnovers and increasing possession, and to sustain pressure for a longer period of time”, was highlighted by Brett Hand, Development Coach for GWS, as important if they want to challenge one of the competitions front runners.
McConnell and Hand will look to their experienced players to “lead by example” with some younger faces in the side, identifying Jed Anderson and the Captain Alex Carey as “natural young leaders” to help the talented younger players find their feet in what is set to be a tough contest.
In a big week for the club, Hand highlighted his boys strong focus and positivity for this weeks match up, as the boys look to turn the clubs off field hype on to the ground for a solid outing at Blacktown.?
Get out and support your local team this weekend. The game starts at 1:30pm and is set to be a great, but challenging game for Team GWS.
