The GIANTS will resume their 2020 AFL Premiership Season campaign at home against North Melbourne before two blockbuster Friday night clashes, including the first ever at GIANTS Stadium.

The AFL today released the next month of the 2020 Season with the highlight being consecutive Friday night rematches against teams the GIANTS met in last season’s finals series, the Bulldogs and Collingwood.

Following an impressive season opener in March against Geelong, the GIANTS now turn their attention to Sunday, June 14 when North Melbourne travel to GIANTS Stadium.

The GIANTS will back up five days later against fierce rivals the Bulldogs under the Friday night lights at Marvel Stadium.

The two teams have a compelling history, with the most recent clash in week one of the 2019 finals as the GIANTS eliminated the Bulldogs’ campaign with a comprehensive victory.

The GIANTS will then return to GIANTS Stadium for their first-ever Friday night clash in Sydney against Collingwood in another 2019 finals re-match.

Last year’s Preliminary Final against the Magpies was one of the games of the season as the GIANTS showed their grit and resilience to hold on in the dying seconds at the MCG and book an inaugural Grand Final berth.

The GIANTS will remain at home in Round four against Hawthorn with former GIANT Jonathon Patton set to return to the place he called home for eight years. The Round four game will be played in a new Sunday night timeslot.

GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said the next four games provided the ideal return to play for the Club.

“We commend the AFL and the relevant health authorities for the work they have done to ensure games return with the health and safety of the community the number one priority,” said Mr Matthews.

“We are delighted for our GIANTS fans, partners, players and staff that the competition will resume. The block of four games is an ideal return – three at GIANTS Stadium and two Friday night fixtures.”

Coach Leon Cameron said he’s looking forward to the season resuming on June 14.

“Our players have returned to the club in great condition and today’s announcement has everyone excited about what’s to come,” said Cameron.

“We’ve received wonderful support from our GIANTS family in recent months and we are looking forward to having our team run out again in 20 days from now.”

For the first time in AFL history, this season will see teams play all opponents once across a 17-week season.

The AFL is systematically releasing the 2020 AFL Premiership Season fixture in blocks, to maintain the necessary flexibility to account for updated state guidelines and health protocols.
