The club is thrilled to have His Excellency, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) show his support as the ACT Patron of the GIANTS this season.

He was sworn in as Governor-General on July 1, 2019, replacing Sir Peter Cosgrove who served five years in the role and was also a Patron of the GIANTS.

In accepting the role, the Governor-General said:

“I am delighted to become the ACT Patron of the GIANTS.

“I recall the GWS GIANTS bursting onto the scene in 2012. The GIANTS played a fast, expansive style of football that captivated their fan base and sent a wider message to the AFL community that they were a force to be reckoned with.

“Their off-field performances have been equally as impressive. The GIANTS players in the AFL and AFLW teams are a credit to the game, represent their club with distinction and are wonderful role models in the community.

“I look forward to supporting both GIANTS teams at UNSW Canberra Oval, and wish them and the GWS GIANTS Football Club all the best for season 2020.

“Go the GIANTS!”

The GIANTS play their next match at UNSW Canberra Oval in round three of the AFL season in a much-anticipated Friday night match against fierce rivals the Western Bulldogs.

Both Queensland clubs, the Suns and the Lions will also play in Canberra this year.
