GIANTS midfielder Matt de Boer has taken a page out of the DJ Khaled playbook and added ‘another one’, to remain a GIANT until the end of 2021.

The 29-year-old signed a one-year contract extension in April but has inked a new deal that will extend his time at the club by another season.

De Boer, who joined the GIANTS with pick 58 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft after eight distinguished seasons at Fremantle, will now likely finish his career at the GIANTS.

“I’ve loved my time at the club and I’m really excited to be extending my stay at the GIANTS by another year,” de Boer said.

“The playing group’s bond is fantastic, we’re committed to individual and collective growth and really well supported off-field also. It is a club I’m proud to be part of.”

De Boer has been outstanding for the GIANTS in 2019 playing primarily as a tagger and was in outstanding form keeping some of the competitions best players under wraps until a broken shoulder in round 13 hampered his season.

The 189cm GIANT has played 15 games so far this season, bringing his career tally to 183.

While the new contract has de Boer in line to play his 50th game for the GIANTS and 200th AFL game, he’s more focused on helping the GIANTS to on-field success.

“I’m not worried about what number of games I get to, there is only that last one in September that I want to win,” he said.

“There’s been a number of great re-signings this year including Stephen Coniglio this week, so I know that with the squad we’ve got and the culture that’s here we can have sustained success into the future as well.”

GIANTS List Manager Jason McCartney said they had no hesitation in adding another year to de Boer’s deal.

“Since re-signing Matt in April, his on-field performances in a different role, playing in the midfield, warranted another year being added to his initial deal,” McCartney said.

“Matt’s performances, leadership and professionalism made it a very easy decision to reward him with an additional year.

“Matt makes a genuine difference at our club and we are lucky to have someone line him at the GIANTS."

De Boer is the 16th player to put pen to paper on a new contract in 2019, with vice-captains Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelly, superstar defender Nick Haynes and young guns Tim Taranto, Jacob Hopper, Sam Taylor, Brent Daniels and Harry Himmelberg amongst those re-committing to the club.
