GIANTS AFL Women’s captain Amanda Farrugia has won her third Mostyn Medal, crowned the AFL Sydney Women’s Premier Division best and fairest on Monday night.

The 34-year-old, who plays for Macquarie University, won the count with 25 votes, just two votes clear of East Coast’s Emily Goodsir.

Former GIANT Rebecca Privitelli finished third in a count that was decided in the final round.

Farrugia has now won a competition best and fairest every two years since 2013 when she claimed the AFL Sydney Women’s Division Two best and fairest, before winning the Mostyn Medal in 2015 and again in 2017.

Speaking after being presented with the medal at Sydney’s Doltone House, Farrugia credited her club in helping her claim the award.

“Getting this award is a bit of a surprise as I’ve been away a bit with the GIANTS playing in VFLW,” Farrugia said.

“But I always love coming home and playing for Macquarie Uni in this competition.

“We have an incredible culture and it’s always a pleasure to represent them.”

Farrugia will now turn her attention to the AFL Sydney Women’s Premier Division Grand Final on Saturday when Macquarie University take on East Coast at Blacktown International Sportspark from 1:30pm.

Meanwhile, GIANTS reigning Gabrielle Trainor Medallist Rebecca Beeson has capped off an impressive VFL Women’s season, named as ruck/rover in the 2019 VFLW Team of the Year on Monday night.

It’s the second consecutive season that Beeson has been included in the VFLW Team of the Year while playing for Hawthorn’s women’s team.

Both Beeson and Farrugia have signed on to play for the GIANTS in the 2020 NAB AFL Women’s season.
