Four GIANTS have been rewarded for their outstanding season by being named in the 2017 Virgin Australia All Australian 40-man squad.
Reigning All Australian half forward Toby Greene and midfielders Josh Kelly, Tom Scully and Dylan Shiel have all been selected and are a strong chance to be named in the final 22 to be named on Wednesday night.
Greene has followed up his breakout 2016 season, showing that he is one of the competition’s elite small forwards kicking 41 goals in 16 games, while also averaging 18.38 disposals per game in 2017.
The 23-year-old leads the GIANTS for goal assists and despite standing at 182cm is third for contested marks.
Kelly’s selection in the 40-man Virgin Australian All Australian squad is a just reward for the 22-year-old who averages a club high 29.2 disposals per game (13th in the AFL for total disposals).
The attacking midfielder has come of age in 2017, breaking the club record for most disposals in a game with 43 disposals in round 22.
Kelly also finds himself fourth on the GIANTS’ goalkicking list with 18 goals and leads the club for tackles averaging 6.3 per game (10th in the AFL for total tackles).
This is Tom Scully’s second successive selection in the Virgin Australia All Australian 40-man squad with the silky winger being rewarded for yet another impressive season.
Scully has missed just one game in 2017, with his running ability again on show with as the 26-year-old played 91 per cent of total game time.
If that wasn’t impressive enough Scully did it while averaging 23 disposals and kicking 14 goals this year.
Dylan Shiel is one of only three GIANTS to play every game this year and is second only to Kelly for disposals in 2017.
The 24-year-old averages 27.55 disposals and sits third in the AFL for clearances, averaging 6.6 per game.
Shiel’s strength around the contest has seen him set a career high 258 contested possessions in 2017.
