Stephen Coniglio’s outstanding round one performance hasn’t gone unnoticed with the vice-captain polling maximum coaches votes and securing a spot in AFL Media’s Team of the Week.

The 25-year-old collected a game-high 31 disposals, took nine marks, won five clearances, laid seven tackles and kicked three goals in his side’s 72-point win over Essendon at GIANTS Stadium on Sunday.

The star midfielder received a perfect 10 votes from GIANTS coach Leon Cameron and Essendon coach John Worsfold in the Shadforth AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award.

It was a clean sweep of GIANTS with young teammate Tim Taranto collecting eight votes followed by Jeremy Cameron (five votes), Lachie Whitfield (three votes), Sam Taylor (two votes) and Jacob Hopper (one vote).

Cameron’s four goals weren’t enough to earn him an AFL.com.au Team of the Week spot though, with Coniglio joined in the side by youngsters Taranto and Taylor.

Taranto’s performance was almost as eye catching as Coniglio’s with the 21-year-old racking up 30 touches, seven clearances, two goals and a game-high 10 tackles.

Young defender Sam Taylor was named at full back in the Team of the Week with the 19-year-old putting in an impressive performance in just his ninth game.

Taylor was rock solid down back for the GIANTS, recording six one percenters and 17 disposals at a game high 94.1 per cent disposal efficiency.
