The GIANTS have secured their first trade of the 2019 AFL Women’s Sign and Trade period, with promising ruck Jessica Allan to wear orange and charcoal in 2020.

The 19-year-old has joined the GIANTS from Adelaide in exchange for pick 46 in the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

Allan played four games for Adelaide in 2018 after joining the Crows with pick eight in the 2017 draft, but due to commitments with the Australian Army, the 185cm ruck was unable to play in 2019.

Based in Canberra, Allan is now in a position to pursue her football aspirations.

GIANTS AFLW Head Coach Alan McConnell said the club was thrilled to welcome a player of her calibre.

“Jessica was a standout junior player and was very prominent in her combine testing before being taken as an early draft,” McConnell said.

“She spent her first season playing deep in the forward line, where she probably didn’t get as much of the ball as she would have liked despite getting some good game time.

“Her work circumstances meant that she had to step away from the game for 12 months, but we’re delighted that her situation has now provided us with an opportunity for her to come to our football club.

"We look forward to her join us for our inaugural VFLW season.”

The second of two AFL Women’s Sign & Trade Periods runs from Tuesday, April 23 to Friday, April 26. The GIANTS currently hold picks 4, 23, 29, 61 and 76 in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft.
