Young defender Caitlin Fletcher has been ruled out for the remainder of the AFLW season after scans over the weekend confirmed she had sustained a hip injury.
The newcomer, who debuted in round one, was ruled out late from the GIANTS’ loss to the Magpies, after experiencing hip soreness on Friday.
Scans have confirmed a bone stress injury, which will make her unavailable for at least three months.
The GIANTS managed to return from Melbourne with only minor incidents, despite several players coming off the field through the match, including Brodee Mowbray who was cleared of any issues after being involved in a head clash while taking a courageous mark.
Grace Kos is a test to play, after coming from the field with a knee complaint in the first quarter but returning to play out the game.
The Irish recruit was later confirmed to have sustained a low grade MCL injury and will be monitored at training throughout the week.
Fletcher’s news comes in the same week that Daisy Walker returned to football for the first time in almost two years, successfully returning to contention for AFLW selection this week via scrimmage.
Former Sun Viv Saad will also be available for selection this weekend, having commenced full training with the team last week.
The GIANTS return home for their first match at Henson Park this season on Saturday at 1:05pm, taking on Kuwarna (Adelaide) in round three, the first of two weeks celebrating Indigenous Round.
The GIANTS will name their team to face the Crows at gwsgiants.com.au, 6:20pm on Thursday.
