Four GIANTS stars have been recognised for their brilliant individual seasons after being named in the 2025 All-Australian squad.
Sam Taylor, Tom Green, Finn Callaghan, and Lachie Ash all feature in this year’s 44-man All-Australian squad announced by the AFL on Tuesday afternoon.
With the final 22-man team announced on Thursday, Taylor is striving to become an All Australian for the second time, while Green, Callaghan, and Ash are all looking to claim their very first All-Australian blazers.
Taylor – seen by many as the league’s best key defender – is in a strong position to add to his 2022 All-Australian nod following another starring season as the leader of the GIANTS’ brilliant backline.
Missing out on All-Australian honours over the last two seasons due to a pair of injury-interrupted campaigns, Taylor has featured in 19 games this season to firmly re-establish himself as the best intercept mark in the competition as well as the league’s stingiest key defender.
Leading the entire competition in both total (70) and average (3.9) intercept marks per game, as well as sitting inside the top 10 for contested marks, Taylor was once again a dominant force down back in 2025 as he looks to add a second All-Australian honour to his resume on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, looking to add their first All-Australian blazers to their wardrobe is star midfield duo Green and Callaghan who have both endured career-best seasons in 2025.
Green – who was previously in the All-Australian squad in 2023 but was controversially left out of last year’s squad before a fifth-place finish in the Brownlow – thoroughly deserves his place in this year’s squad after further cementing himself as one of the league’s best inside midfielders.
Finishing fifth in the competition in both total (660) and average disposals (29.5), first in contested possessions per game (15.4), first in ground ball gets per game (10.1), as well as second in clearances per game (8.3), Green has been a dominant force around the ball once again for the GIANTS this season.
Green has also hit the scoreboard more this year, kicking 13 goals to inflict even further damage as he looks to claim his first All-Australian honour.
Callaghan is another GIANT striving for his maiden All-Australian selection following a brilliant breakout season from the dynamic young midfielder.
Still just 22 years old and amid just his fourth AFL campaign, Callaghan took his game to new heights in 2025, averaging 28.1 touches, 5.7 inside 50s, 4.8 clearances, 4.5 tackles, as well as 570 meters gained to establish himself as one of the competition’s brightest young stars.
Combining an incredible work rate with eye-catching speed and one of the league’s most damaging left foots, Callaghan has quickly become one of the league’s best midfielders and a worthy selection in this year’s All-Australian squad.
Rounding out the GIANTS’ All-Australian squad recipients is Ash who has also received the honour for the first time following a breakout 2025 campaign.
One of the league’s most improved players across the 2023 and 2024 seasons following a permanent move to half back, Ash has taken his game to even greater heights in 2025 with a career-best season to become a key component of Adam Kingsley’s orange tsunami game style.
Upping last year’s average of 20.3 disposals per game to 27.9 this year, the dashing defender also averaged a whopping 543 meters gained per game to go along with 6.3 marks and 6.4 rebound 50s per game to become one of the league’s most damaging running weapons.
Taylor, Green, Callaghan, and Ash will find out if they’ve been selected in the final 22-man All-Australian side when the team is announced at the AFL Awards in Melbourne on Thursday night.
The AFL Awards, hosted by the AFL in conjunction with the AFLPA and AFLCA, will be broadcast live on Fox Footy and Kayo from 7:30pm on Thursday night.
The final team of 22, as per the criteria established in 2007, will be selected as if to play a match.
The All-Australian selection panel was asked to select 44 players to recognise the leading players across all parts of the field – forwards, defenders and midfielders/rucks.
The 2025 All Australian selection panel is Andrew Dillon (Chair), Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Abbey Holmes, Glen Jakovich, Laura Kane and Matthew Pavlich.
