The GIANTS are thrilled to announce that promising young forward Nathan Wardius has signed a two-year contract extension, committing to the club until at least the end of the 2027.

A country boy from Walbundrie in the state’s Riverina, Wardius joined the club as Category B Rookie at the end of 2023.

Despite flying under the radar compared to some of the club’s more high-profile draftees, the 20-year-old has steadily built a name for himself in 2025 through his outstanding form in the VFL.

A crafty, opportunistic forward with great game sense Wardius has been a standout for the club’s VFL side this season.

Sitting in the top five for goals scored across the competition for the majority of the season, his breakout moment came in round 3, when he produced a dominant eight-goal, 22-disposal, 12-mark performance that firmly caught the attention of coaches, teammates and opposition.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney said he was thrilled to have Nathan re-commit.

“Nathan has had a fantastic year of development within our VFL program and working with our development coaches,” he said.

“He’s shown real improvement and consistency in his game, and we’ve been really pleased with his growth this season. He’s a smart footballer with a great attitude and a strong work ethic, and that’s been reflected in his performances.”

“There’s still plenty of growth in Nathan’s game, but he’s shown that he belongs at this level and has the tools to keep progressing.

“We’re excited to see where the next phase of his journey takes him.”

Wardius suffered an ACL injury in last weekend’s VFL loss, which will see him sidelined for an extended period.

While the setback is undoubtedly disappointing, the GIANTS are committed to supporting Wardius through his rehabilitation and recovery.
