The GIANTS are excited to confirm their AFLW coaching group for the 2025 season, with Cam Bernasconi continuing as Head Coach for a fourth consecutive season.

Bernasconi once again leads a strong and experienced group of assistants and development coaches, with several familiar faces returning in their roles and a few subtle shifts in coaching responsibilities across the program.

Assistant Coaches

  • Jon Vlatko remains in his long-standing role as Forwards Coach, continuing his work with the attacking group in what will be his eighth season with the club’s AFLW coaching group.
  • Three-time SANFL premiership player Trent Goodrem will continue in his role as Midfield Coach, having made a successful transition into the position in 2024 after two seasons as a development coach.
  • Brent Chapman enters his second season as Backline Coach, bringing consistency and a strong teaching presence to the backline group.
  • Michael Horne, who served as the Strategy Coach in 2024, will step into a slightly adjusted role as Opposition and Transition coach in 2025, expanding his responsibilities in the tactical space.

Development Coaches

  • Georgia Walker continues as Head of Development and Female Academy Coach, now with a greater focus on scrimmage and skill development. After previously serving as the backline coach in 2022 and 2023, Walker brings extensive experience and leadership to the club’s emerging talent pathways.
  • Darren Ratten will return as a Development Coach, adding value with his focus on bodywork.
  • Former AFLW premiership-winning Crow Rhiannon Metcalfe enters her third season as Ruck Coach, continuing to mentor the club’s ruck group after a decorated playing career and now growing reputation as a coach.
  • Stephen Camp remains an integral part of the team as a Development Coach, focusing on foot skills while continuing his support for the GIANTS Academy program.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zell, said the 2025 coaching group provides the ideal blend of stability, continuity and innovation.

“We’re really pleased to retain much of our 2024 coaching group and make some strategic refinements heading into this season,” Zell said.

“With Cam’s leadership and a coaching group that understands our values and direction, we’re confident in our program’s ability to take another step forward in 2025 in what’s sure to be an exciting season as we celebrate our 10th season in the AFLW competition.”

The GIANTS will launch their 2025 AFLW season with a round one blockbuster against the Bombers in Canberra on Saturday, August 16.
