The GIANTS are delighted to announce that dynamic mid-forward Xavier O’Halloran has signed a new three-year deal, recommitting to the club until at least the end of the 2028 AFL season.

Selected with pick 22 in the 2018 AFL Draft, O’Halloran has built a reputation as a hard-running, tough, and versatile utility capable of impacting games through the midfield and across forward half.

A natural leader from a young age, O’Halloran captained Vic Metro during his junior career and has carried that leadership quality into his time at the GIANTS.

O’Halloran made his AFL debut in round 10, 2020, and has steadily become a dependable part of the GIANTS side, reaching the 50-game milestone during the 2024 season.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a breakout campaign last year, playing a career-high 19 games and playing valuable roles both across half forward and as a midfielder.

Now in his seventh season at the club, O’Halloran continues to grow in stature, with his versatility, work rate, and competitive edge making him a consistent contributor in Adam Kingsley’s side.

O’Halloran’s new three-year deal comes in the midst of a career-best season, highlighted by an impressive last month which has seen him play a vital role in the GIANTS’ surge to September.

Making the most of increased opportunity as an inside midfielder, O’Halloran averaged 20 disposals and almost a goal a game to go along with five inside 50s, four clearances, and 3.5 tackles per game between rounds 15-19 – highlighted by a brilliant 27-disposal, two-goal game against the Eagles at Optus Stadium in round 17.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said the club was thrilled to secure O’Halloran on a new deal.

“Xavier’s journey has been one of perseverance, development and commitment, and it’s great to have him remain a GIANT for another three years,” McCartney said.

“He’s a player who gives everything every time he pulls on the jumper – whether it’s in the midfield or up forward, his work ethic and intensity are exactly what we value at this football club.

“Xavier has become a really solid contributor to the side and we’re seeing him play the most consistent footy of his career this year and we’re confident that his best is still to come.”

The news of O'Halloran's new deal comes after the GIANTS made it six straight wins with a statement 44-point victory over the Swans at ENGIE Stadium on Friday night to continue their push for a top four spot.

With his signature, the tough midfielder also joins a long list of key players to lock in their futures at the club, with Aaron Cadman, Darcy Jones, Finn Callaghan, Connor Idun, Callum Brown, and Toby Bedford all re-committing to the GIANTS in recent months.
