The GIANTS are proud to officially open their brand-new aquatic facility at the club’s high-performance training headquarters in Sydney Olympic Park, marking the completion of the first phase of the GIANTS' Centre of Excellence project.
This state-of-the-art facility represents a major milestone in the evolution of the GIANTS’ elite sport training environment and a significant investment in the future of high-performance sport and community engagement in Western Sydney.
Purpose-built in conjunction with FDC Construction as a cutting-edge recovery and performance hub, the aquatic facility has been carefully designed to meet the demands of modern elite sport.
It will serve as a critical recovery space for the GIANTS’ three professional programs - AFL, AFLW, and GIANTS Netball - providing facilities for hydrotherapy, rehabilitation, and year-round conditioning.
The opening of the aquatic facility represents phase one of the club’s broader Centre of Excellence project, which is being delivered in partnership with the NSW Government’s Office of Sport and the Australian Football League.
The program is focused on creating elite sporting infrastructure that not only supports high-performance outcomes but also delivers broader benefits to the community - particularly in the areas of talent development, inclusion, and community access.
“This is a major moment and a very proud one for us as a club,” said GIANTS Chief Executive Officer, David Matthews.
“The aquatic facility is an outstanding addition to our high-performance precinct and a significant step forward in providing our athletes—men and women alike—with access to the best possible training and recovery resources.
“This extension to our facilities also strengthens our commitment to serving the wider community, by increasing our capacity to welcome local schools, clubs and pathway programs into the GIANTS family.”
NSW Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper said the new facilities would deliver an incredible benefit to both the club and the local grassroots sporting community.
“Our government is committed to helping bridge the gap between elite and grassroots sport,” the Minister said.
“Once completed, the project and precinct will enable the expansion of community programs and engagement, increasing community access to sporting programs, while delivering fit-for-purpose facilities for our elite athletes.”
Further upgrades to the Centre of Excellence are underway, with phase two - including upgraded lighting at Tom Wills Oval - scheduled for completion later this year.
These enhancements will enable the GIANTS’ AFLW program to train under lights year-round, improving scheduling flexibility and creating more equitable conditions for female athletes.
