Promising draftee Logan Smith and exciting GIANTS Academy youngster Ethan Matthews headline six inclusions to the club’s VFL side for Saturday’s clash with Richmond.
An exciting young ruck prospect picked up by the club in last year’s draft via the GIANTS Academy, Smith will line up for the GIANTS' VFL side on Saturday in what will be his first official outing since joining the club last November.
Meanwhile Matthews, a talented 16-year-old currently in the club’s Academy, will make his VFL debut in Saturday’s clash.
Joining them in the VFL are AFL-listed duo Jacob Wehr and Harry Oliver who are sure to add some dash and dare to a GIANTS side looking to rebound from their first two losses of the season.
Also entering the team is tough small forward James Lugsdin, while Will Shaw has been named to play his first VFL game in more than 18 months.
Exiting the side is Marc Sheather (suspension), Jace McQuade, Perry Lewis-Smith, Sam McMeeken (omitted), and Phoenix Gothard (managed).
Meanwhile exciting draftee Ollie Hannaford will spend some time on the sidelines after scans on Tuesday confirmed a syndesmosis injury suffered in last week’s VFL clash. The talented teenager is expected to be sidelined for 8-12 weeks after undergoing successful surgery on Thursday.
The GIANTS’ VFL side will feature 15 AFL-listed players in Saturday’s team, with the club aiming to end a run of consecutive losses after starting the season undefeated across its first six games.
Played as a curtain raiser to the club’s AFL clash with Richmond, the club’s VFL clash will get under way on Saturday at 12:30pm at ENGIE Stadium.
