The GIANTS are honoured to celebrate Sir Doug Nicholls Round this weekend when they welcome Walyalup (Fremantle) to ENGIE Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Sir Doug Nicholls Round is an important celebration of the rich Indigenous history in our great game.
Sir Doug Nicholls was a Yorta Yorta man born in New South Wales. He was a pioneer of reconciliation throughout Australia at the conclusion of his AFL career with Fitzroy. 2025 marks the 19th year the AFL has held a designated Indigenous round, with it being the 10th dedicated to Sir Doug Nicholls.
The GIANTS have been proud to feature several outstanding Indigenous players who have left their mark both on and off the field. From Curtly Hampton and Nathan Wilson in year one, to Harry Rowston and Toby Bedford in 2025, Indigenous players have played an important role in the GIANTS’ history.
These athletes have helped shape the club’s identity and spirit. Their contributions continue to inspire the next generation, embodying the strength, pride, and rich cultural heritage celebrated in Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
