The GIANTS continue to add finals experience to their 2024 squad after completing a trade with the Swans for exciting small forward Aliesha Newman.

Newman will swap the red and white for orange and charcoal in exchange for pick 30 at Monday’s AFLW Draft. The GIANTS will also receive pick 34 from the Swans in the deal.

Born in Victoria, Newman has 58 games of AFLW experience to her name after spending time at Melbourne, Collingwood, and most recently the Swans.

Originally recruited by the Demons as a free agent in 2016, the speedy small forward quickly established herself as one of the competition’s most electric players around goal and in 2018 won the AFLW Goal of the Year Award.

An explosive footballer who loves to run and carry, Newman can play as a permanent forward or on the wing.

A proud Indigenous woman of Ningy Ningy descent, the 28-year-old is also a strong leader and role model and will bring a wealth of leadership and knowledge to the GIANTS’ exciting young list.

Newman joins the GIANTS after a successful two years with the Swans where she celebrated her 50th AFLW game and recently played in the club’s first ever finals campaign, kicking a goal in each of their two finals.

GIANTS Executive General Manager - Football Strategy and Operations, Briana Harvey, is thrilled with Newman’s addition.

“We are rapt to acquire someone of Aliesha’s talent and experience and we can’t wait to welcome her to the club,” Harvey said.

“With over 50 AFLW games to her name, Aliesha has shown she’s an extremely dangerous player around goals and we are excited to see her showcase her talent in GIANTS colours next season.

“With Aliesha’s addition, as well as welcoming Brisbane Lions premiership player Mikayla Pauga to the club, and our strong draft hand at next week’s Draft, we feel the club is in a great position for success in the future.”
