Demons small forward Toby Bedford has become a GIANT on day six of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

The GIANTS completed a trade with Melbourne on Monday, sending pick 44 to the Demons in exchange for the lively goal-kicker.

The 22-year-old played 18 games over four seasons for the Demons after being selected at pick 75 in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft as a Next-Generation Academy selection.

He hit the scoreboard on all but two occasions in season 2022, kicking nine goals from eight games and named another eight times as the sub. He was also a member of Casey’s VFL premiership winning side this season.

Bedford is a proud Bunuba man, hailing from Fitzroy Crossing, a four-hour drive from Broome in Western Australia.

GIANTS General Manager of Football Jason McCartney welcomed Bedford to the club.

“We’re excited to welcome Toby to the GIANTS,” McCartney said.

“We identified Toby as a player who could come in and add to our small-forward stocks, so we were thrilled he saw an opportunity at our club and pleased we could come to an agreement with Melbourne.

“He’s a young and exciting player with a lot of potential, and we look forward to watching him continue to grow and develop over the coming years.”

The GIANTS hold a strong hand heading into next month’s NAB AFL Draft, with four picks inside the top 20. The GIANTS currently hold picks 3, 12, 15, 18, 19, 61 and 63.

The AFL Trade Period runs until 7:30pm on Wednesday, October 12.
