The GIANTS have paid tribute to AFL Chief Executive Officer Gillon McLachlan, who today announced he will complete his role at the end of 2022.

GIANTS CEO, David Matthews, said since taking over as AFL CEO from Andrew Demetriou in 2014, Mr McLachlan has maintained an unwavering focus on the game’s growth.

“On behalf of everyone at the GIANTS, I take this opportunity to congratulate Gill on his time with the AFL and wish him well for the remainder of the year ahead,” Mr Matthews said.

“Gill and I joined AFL Head Office at a similar time and have worked together for over 20 years. That collaboration started as members of the AFL Executive team and has continued in my role as a CEO of the GIANTS, given we operate in the game’s most important growth market.  I have seen first-hand the contribution he has made across the past two decades.

“He’s had a significant impact on our game, overseeing extraordinary growth on and off the field through a range of achievements, including negotiating numerous broadcast deals, fast-tracking the establishment of the AFLW competition and most recently steering the industry so successfully through the pandemic.

“We wish Gill, Laura and family all the best for the future.”
