Harvey Norman will donate $1000 to each of the 18 local clubs across the Western Sydney region, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the last two community AFL seasons.

Harvey Norman joined the GIANTS as a key driver of the club’s AFL Women’s program prior to the inaugural AFLW season in 2017, with their partnership broadening to include the AFL program in 2021.

GIANTS Chief Executive Officer, David Matthews, thanked Harvey Norman for its support of the club and those Western Sydney community clubs impacted by COVID.

“Harvey Norman, led by Katie Page, have believed in our club for over five years now, committing to growing women’s football across NSW and the ACT from day one,” Mr Matthews said.

“They’ve not only led the way with their genuine support and commitment to our AFLW team but then extended their partnership across our AFL program too.

“Now, they’re continuing to give back to our local communities in Western Sydney by supporting those grassroots clubs hardest hit by the pandemic.

“We are delighted their commitment to the GIANTS will extend for another two seasons and that we have the opportunity to partner with Harvey Norman to support male and female athletes from the grassroots all the way through to the elite AFL and AFLW level.”

The inaugural Principal Partner of the GIANTS’ AFL Women’s team, Harvey Norman’s iconic red and white logo will continue to feature on the front of the club’s AFLW jumpers into a sixth and seventh season. The Harvey Norman brand will also continue to feature prominently on the back of the club’s AFL jumpers.

Harvey Norman Chief Executive Officer Katie Page said:

“Harvey Norman has been at home in Western Sydney for almost 40 years and the GIANTS have just celebrated a decade in the AFL, so the timing of our partnership extension is very fitting. To both of us, commitment to community is everything.

“Harvey Norman has supported the GIANTS AFLW team since day one in 2017. Our contribution expanded to include the men’s program in season 2021 and we are equally proud to extend our support to both teams.

“We know local grassroots clubs are where a love of sport is developed. Harvey Norman is donating $1000 to 18 Western Sydney AFL Junior Clubs for season 2022. Every one of these clubs have different needs, but we share one ambition to get as many Western Sydney kids as possible back training and playing footy.

“Real success is when every dimension of your local community is sustainable and thriving – from grassroots sport for kids, elite sporting facilities and competition for both athletes and fans through to strong employment and career opportunities. That is our goal.”
