Ruck recruit Braydon Preuss could play his first game in GIANTS colours this weekend while captain Stephen Coniglio and veteran Sam Reid are available for selection.

Preuss hasn’t played a game all year after undergoing a shoulder reconstruction in February and then rupturing his pec when he was on the verge of a comeback in late May.

After going through the transition hub in Queensland and then meeting up with the team in Melbourne, the 206cm big man just has to complete training this week to return via a VFL practice match this weekend.

“It’s great news for Preussy,” said GIANTS Head of Medical Cullan Ball.

“We did spend our quarantine together and he was a pain cooped up in there but I’m very pleased for him. It’s been a tough road with back-to-back injuries but we’re excited for him to get out there this weekend.”

Coniglio and Reid both played in a 60-minute practice match against the Tigers last Friday and are available for selection as the GIANTS get set to take on the Blues in the final round of the home and away season.

“The two boys put their hands up late last week to play some minutes in the modified practice match,” Ball said.

“They both played full minutes and got through well so now it will be up to the coaches as to whether they’re selected this week.”

Rising Star Tom Green is a test for this week, as is Matt Buntine who picked up a quad contusion in training last week. Callum Brown is a week away with a hamstring injury.

The GIANTS take on Carlton at Marvel Stadium with the date and time to be confirmed.
