Full of poise and class, Lachie Whitfield has been one of the GIANTS’ most consistent players for more than a decade since being taken with the number one pick in the 2012 AFL Draft. Possessed with rare awareness and decision-making abilities, as well as elite skills on either side of the body, Whitfield is a dangerous weapon when used as either a wingman or a dashing half-back flanker. Whitfield has been a mainstay in the GIANTS’ side ever since his debut in round one, 2013, playing key roles in each of the club’s six finals campaigns. Moved from the wing to the unfamiliar position of the backline in 2018, Whitfield quickly became one of the most damaging half-backs in the competition on his way to his first All-Australian blazer as well as the 2018 Kevin Sheedy Medal. Two years later, the silky-smooth mover became the first GIANT to become a two-time club champion when he tied with Nick Haynes for the 2020 Kevin Sheedy Meal. Entering his 12th season in 2024, Whitfield is showing no signs of slowing down after a brilliant 2023 season, finishing the year averaging 27 disposals, 5.8 marks and 461m gained.
