One of the competition’s silkiest and most composed players, Whitfield has been one of the GIANTS’ and the AFL’s most damaging players for more than a decade. Taken with the number one pick in the 2012 Draft, Whitfield is a great decision maker and an elite ball user on either side of his body who has cemented himself as a star of the competition. After starring on the wing early in his career, Whitfield was moved to the unfamiliar position of the backline in 2018 where he quickly became one of the best half-backs in the competition on his way to his first All-Australian blazer as well as the 2018 Kevin Sheedy Medal. Two years later, the smooth mover became the first GIANT to become a two-time club champion when he tied with Nick Haynes for the 2020 Kevin Sheedy Meal. Whitfield took his game to even greater heights in 2024 to once again be named an All Australian after a brilliant season which saw him finish as the competition’s leading disposal getter. Whitfield had another starring season for the GIANTS in 2025, finishing inside the top 10 across the league for disposals as well as third for effective kicks.
