The GIANTS have recalled Shane Mumford, Tom Green and Lachie Ash for a Saturday afternoon clash with Melbourne at the MCG.

Mumford returns to add experience to the GIANTS’ young ruck stocks and will partner with Matt Flynn for the match-up against the first-placed Demons.

Mumford returns after managing a minor back issue the last two weeks and replaces Kieren Briggs.

Youngsters Tom Green and Lachie Ash have also been recalled after impressive performances in the VFL.

Green had 41 touches and 11 clearances against the Swans last Sunday evening while Ash had 18 touches and a goal at 83 per cent efficiency.

The pair replace Matt de Boer and Sam Reid who have both been omitted.

GIANTS coach Leon Cameron said:

“Competition for spots is really high at the moment and that can only be a good thing.

“There have been some really tough decisions this week but we felt we needed to reward some younger players who have gone back to the lower level and done everything asked of them.

“It’s a huge challenge against the Dees - they’re on top of the table for a reason and all aspects of their game are flying.

“It’s a challenge we’re really excited for and our 22 can’t wait to run out onto the MCG on Saturday afternoon.”

Captain Stephen Coniglio and key forward Jesse Hogan are set to line-up against the Casey Demons in the VFL on Saturday night as they both return from injury lay-offs.

The GIANTS take on Melbourne on Saturday at 1:45pm at the MCG.
