GREATER Western Sydney isn’t ready to commit to youth despite an 0-3 start and a growing injury list derailing its season, according to coach Leon Cameron.

The GIANTS will field their youngest team for many years against Collingwood on Saturday night, as they look to replace skipper Stephen Coniglio, former-captain Phil Davis and midfield leader Matt de Boer after the important trio were injured in the 34-point loss to Melbourne.

The team that played the Demons included 12 players who were 23 years old or younger, and with few experienced reinforcements to call on the GIANTS expect to line up with nine players with 15 games or less in experience.

But Cameron said a young team this week isn’t a sign of what is to come for the rest of the season, and that his club won’t start prioritising youth and giving games to younger players.

“We know the situation we're in. We've got nine or 10 of our best 22 out, and a lot of those guys are mature players. We're being really honest with ourselves where we're at,” Cameron said.

"We'll pick the best side that we can possibly pick every week, starting this week.

“If that means it's young kids, it's young kids. If it's players that are coming back from injury, or players that have been at our club for 10 years, then we'll pick the best side every week that we think can get the job done.”

The GIANTS have already revealed that Conor Stone will debut against the Magpies, after the 18-year-old from Oakleigh Chargers was taken at Pick No.15 in last year’s NAB AFL Draft.

"He's been playing some great footy as a wing and an inside mid,” Cameron said.

“He comes with great speed and power and agility. He's a really good kick as well, so he's going to add to our outside game.”

The GIANTS clash with the Pies will be their first match at the MCG for 560 days, when they lost the 2019 Grand Final to Richmond by 89 points.

But Cameron doesn’t expect any lingering memories to affect the Giant’s performance this week, especially as seven players in his team will play at the MCG for the first time.

"We're a far different team from 2019 to now. We'll be a really young team going into this game,” he said.

“We do like the opportunity to play at the MCG. The last time we played there was disappointing on Grand Final day in 2019, but we've also had some good memories there as well.”

Cameron revealed that Jesse Hogan is playing in a VFL practice match against Sydney on Friday, in his first hit-out for the GIANTS against other opposition.

The key forward will play 80-90 minutes as he returns from a quad injury that he picked up after being traded from Fremantle last year.

“He's in a really good headspace, he's done his rehab really well and he's fit. He'll just need that footy fitness, starting today,” Cameron said.

“We're looking forward to seeing what he does, but let's make sure he gets through unscathed, gets a few touches and hits the scoreboard. He's genuinely excited just to play.”
