Former skipper Callan Ward will miss about a month of football after a gruesome finger dislocation during Sunday’s match against West Coast.

Despite the horrific look of the injury, surgery on Monday evening showed no tendon damage and no fracture, with just some minor ligament damage that has now been repaired.

GIANTS Head of Medical Cullan Ball said it was the best possible result.

“Wardy had a compound dislocation of his finger,” Ball said.

“There’s no other structural damage in there, so no tendon damage and no fracture so that’s the best possible outcome for Cal.

“We think he’ll probably miss around a month.”

Fellow former co-captain Phil Davis will be sidelined for the next couple of weeks after an issue in his right knee flared up.

It’s an injury he’s been managing for a couple of months with the medial ligament he injured in his left knee two weeks ago now fully healed.

“He had a grade one medial in his left knee he sustained in the Essendon game and that’s pretty good now so he’s been fine with that,” Ball said.

“But he has developed a little bit of soreness in his other knee. He’s had that for a couple of months and it’s just gotten a little bit worse over the last couple of weeks.

“We’ve been managing that at the moment and we’ll see how he goes over the next couple of weeks.”

Former Docker Matt de Boer looks set to line up against his old side after missing three weeks with a hamstring injury.

“He’s done really well and is on track to play this next match,” Ball said.

“He’s just got to get through a fitness later in the week and we expect him to be available.”

Meanwhile, defenders Sam Reid (calf) and Isaac Cumming (hamstring) have come off the injury list and will be available for selection after long-term injuries.

“They’ve both worked really hard over the last couple of months with their rehab and they’ve both done really well,” Ball said.

“A great, professional effort from those two guys and they’re both expected to play the next game coming up.”

The GIANTS take on Fremantle on Saturday at 2:35pm WST/4:35pm EST in their final match in WA.
