Mind Over Matter Month for diabetes awareness is upon us this June and Greater Western Sydney GIANT Sam Reid has put up his hand to help support children living with type 1 diabetes.

Having been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 20 as well as being an ambassador for the Australian Diabetes Council, Reid’s decision to now support children living with diabetes is an easy one.

Such is the extent of his commitment, Sam Reid will be shaving off his beloved beard if his sponsorship numbers reach $3 000, with the all money raised going to help continue to improve support and care for children at the Royal Children's Hospital.

“I’m pretty disappointed about the prospect of losing the beard," Reid said.

“Some people don’t understand the time and effort that goes in to the beard, it has to be washed and combed – I take better care of it than I do my hair.

“It’s a great cause so it’s worth losing it for.”

So far, Reid has raised $345.00 during Mind Over Matter Month and is he reaches $3000 he will be clean-shaven come the start of July.
