Coach Leon Cameron addresses the team at training at Tom Wills Oval.

Coach Leon Cameron remains bullish that the 2020 season will be completed and has declared the GIANTS are ready to play “anywhere, any time.”

With an outbreak of COVID-19 in Melbourne, the AFL looks set to send the 10 Victorian teams interstate following round five with Sydney a potential hub.

It remains unclear who the GIANTS will play following Sunday’s clash against Hawthorn, but coach Leon Cameron said he’s keeping an open mind regarding the weeks ahead.

“We feel for those caught up with what’s happening down in Victoria,” said Cameron.

“We’ve got a great opportunity to play footy and we’re privileged to play in the circumstances that a lot of people are facing in Australia and around the world.

“A lot of people are not back at work and a lot of people are losing their jobs.

“If there’s a hub here in Sydney, fantastic we’ll participate. If we have to shift to the Northern Territory, fantastic, we’ll participate.

“We’ll play anywhere, any time and we’ve got a great responsibility and it’s a privilege for us to be playing every weekend.”

The GIANTS host Hawthorn at GIANTS Stadium on Sunday night following Hawks coach Alistair Clarkson delivering a damning assessment of the state of the game following round four.

Cameron has welcomed discussions that have taken place this week regarding how the game is being officiated, but maintains there are plenty of positives to focus on at the moment.

“I know there’s been a little bit of commentary on the standard of the game but equally we forget some of the cracking games,” said Cameron.

“There are some sides that are absolutely flying at the moment and I thought Friday night’s game against Collingwood was a magnificent game from both teams.

“The Hawthorn and Kangaroos game, as much as people comment on it, just an outstanding finish. So for all the bad news, there is a lot of good news going on.”

The GIANTS will name a squad of 26 to play Hawthorn tonight with Leon Cameron and his match committee yet to finalise whether or not key defender Phil Davis will play after sitting out the end of the round four clash with a hamstring issue.
