The GIANTS will play in their first-ever NAB AFL Women’s Competition final following Wednesday night’s announcement that the competition’s finals series would be brought forward.

The AFLW was set to have two more rounds before a three-week finals series, but the ever-changing nature of the COVID-19 situation prompted the AFL to make the drastic decision to forgo the final two weeks of the regular season and play finals earlier in the hope of producing a premier.

The decision means the GIANTS, who sit second on the Conference A ladder following a momentous win over the Adelaide Crows in Adelaide on Sunday, will play in their first-ever AFL Women’s finals.

The finals series fixture is due to be announced on Thursday.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan shared the news as he also announced the 2020 Toyota AFL Season would commence as planned this weekend.

“The NAB AFL Women’s will continue this weekend, however we will forgo the final two weeks of the home and away season and move straight to finals, with the fixture to be announced tomorrow,” he said.
