The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS have completed two trades on day one of the Club’s first official AFL trade period.

In a deal completed with the Richmond Football Club, the GIANTS have secured pick 14 in this year’s NAB AFL Draft in exchange for pick 15 and Steven Morris, a player previously nominated for the draft.

In a similar deal with the Collingwood Football Club, the GIANTS have secured pick 25 in the draft (Collingwood’s first selection) in exchange for two previously listed / nominated players, Martin Clark and Jamie Elliott along with pick 67 in the draft.

Under the list establishment rules put in place for the GIANTS, the club can pre-list 10 players who had previously nominated for the AFL Draft, or were previously listed with an AFL club.

In both deals completed today the GIANTS exchanged these previously listed or nominated players for draft picks with other clubs.

National Recruitment and List Manger Stephen Silvagni said the club was happy with the deals secured by the GIANTS on day one of the trade period.

“We’re happy with what we were able to get out of today. We pretty much improved our pecking order in the national draft.

“Certainly the previously listed players have been a bonus for us to use in this trade period. We have 10 previously listed / nominated players that we can deal with over the next two years and we will look to actually keep two or three of those on our list.”

“We’re trying to get the best possible outcome for the build of our club so obviously we’re meeting with every club and discussing a number of options, but we will just have to wait and see what eventuates.”

The official AFL trade period will conclude on Monday October 17.
