The GIANTS are delighted to announce that club legend Stephen Coniglio has signed a new one-year deal, taking him through until the end of the 2027 AFL season.

The new deal will see the inaugural GIANT enter a 16th AFL season in 2027 as he looks to build on his incredible legacy in orange and charcoal.

Becoming a GIANT as a teenager ahead of the club’s very first season in 2012, Coniglio will enter the 2027 campaign as the sole remaining GIANT from the club’s maiden AFL campaign.

Coniglio’s extension comes following a strong finish to his 2026 season which saw the speedy veteran spend more time across half forward, with the 32-year-old adding a host of class, leadership, and experience to the GIANTS’ front half.

Originally from Perth, Coniglio has cemented himself as one of the GIANTS’ greatest ever players since being taken by the club with pick two in the 2011 National Draft.

Choosing football over a promising cricket career as a teenager, Coniglio quickly established himself as one of the club’s young stars in its formative years as he went on to become of the league’s premier midfielders.

A natural leader, Coniglio served as the GIANTS’ captain in 2020 and 2021 before transitioning to co-captain alongside Toby Greene and Josh Kelly in 2022 and then vice-captain in 2023.

Runner-up in the GIANTS’ club champion award in both 2022 and 2023, as well as a member of the 2023 All-Australian squad, Coniglio’s class and ability to break lines continue to make him a valuable part of Adam Kingsley’s side.

Coniglio currently sits fourth on the club’s all-time games played list with 248 AFL games to his name, with the veteran in line to become just the fourth player to play 250 games for the GIANTS when season 2027 gets under way.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said it was great news for the entire club to have Coniglio signed on for a 16th season.

“Stephen is clearly an extremely valued person and player and it’s fantastic that he’ll be at the club next year,” McCartney said.

“As an inaugural GIANT he’s played a crucial role in building this club and we’re thrilled he can continue to have a profound impact both on and off the field in 2027.

“He showed throughout this year that he’s certainly still capable of having a strong impact in the side and we look forward to seeing what he can produce next year.

“As well as his on-field performance, Stephen is such a valued voice, leader, and role model within our group and his impact in that space, especially for our younger players, is invaluable.

“We’ve been able to lock away a lot of young talent for the future and it’s nice to be able to add Stephen’s experience and leadership alongside that in what we view as an exciting time for the club.”
