The GIANTS are pleased to welcome Adam Read as an assistant coach to the club’s AFL program for the 2027 season.
Read joins the GIANTS following 19 years at the Fremantle Football Club, where he has held a variety of roles across recruiting, development and coaching.
Beginning his career with the Dockers as a South Australian recruiter in 2007, Read has since built extensive experience across the football program, most recently serving as a Development Coach.
His coaching credentials also include significant success with Fremantle’s WAFL affiliate, Peel Thunder, where he has established himself as a two-time premiership coach, leading the club to a WAFL premiership in his first season in charge in 2024 and again in 2026.
In 2025, Read was appointed Western Australia State Coach, leading the side to a drought-breaking victory over South Australia at Adelaide Oval, securing the Haydn Bunton Jr Cup for the first time in six years. He backed that up with a second straight victory in May this year.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said Read will be a great addition to the club’s coaching ranks.
“We’re really pleased to welcome Adam to the GIANTS,” McCartney said.
“He’s an experienced football person who has worked across a number of different areas of the game and has a proven ability to develop players and form strong relationships.
“His recent success with Peel Thunder, as well as his experience within Fremantle’s AFL program, speaks to the quality of coach he is.
“We’re always looking for ways to strengthen our football program, and we believe Adam will be a great addition to our coaching group and to the club more broadly.”
Read said he was excited to begin a new chapter with the GIANTS.
“I’m really excited to be joining the GIANTS and grateful for the opportunity to be part of the club,” Read said.
“After such a long time involved with football in the West, this is both a significant move but an exciting opportunity and on I’m really looking forward to.
“I’ve got enormous respect for what the GIANTS have built and the direction the club is heading, and I’m excited to work alongside the coaches, players and broader football program.
“I’ve loved my time at Fremantle and will always be grateful for the opportunities and relationships I’ve had there, but I’m ready for a new challenge and can’t wait to get started in Sydney.”
