Former Hawthorn captain Tilly Lucas-Rodd has landed at the GIANTS after nominating the club as their preferred destination in the 2025 AFLW Trade Period.

The GIANTS have sent their future second, a future third, and a future second round pick (tied to Brisbane) to the Hawks to secure the defender and a future fourth round pick in a last-second trade.

A 2024 All Australian and a genuine superstar of the game, Lucas-Rodd comes to the GIANTS by way of the Hawks, Saints and Blues, having begun their AFLW career at Princes Park after being selected by Carlton with pick 99 in the inaugural draft of 2016.

With 90 games of AFLW experience under their belt, Lucas-Rodd adds plenty of winning acumen and footy IQ to the GIANTS’ list.

Originally beginning their career in the midfield, a shift to defence in 2022 re-ignited their spark, with the Hawks providing a launching pad to the best form of their career.

The switch led to first and third finishes in Hawthorn’s best and fairest counts of 2022 and 2023 respectively, before recognition as one of the game’s best by way of an All-Australian blazer in 2024.

Touted for their toughness, game-reading and on-ball skills, Lucas-Rodd is an impactful addition to the GIANTS list, with an ability to swing between defence and midfield.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW, Alison Zell, said she was looking forward to the experience that Lucas-Rodd can add to the young GIANTS’ side.

“Tilly brings a significant amount of football IQ and experience to our list and we’re ecstatic to have them onboard,” Zell said.

"They’ve showcased leadership, versatility and are an immense contributor across the ground and we believe they can play an important role in bolstering our backline.

“We believe Tilly is an exceptional cultural fit for the club and look forward to welcoming them into GIANTS HQ ahead of season 2026.”
