Young GIANTS midfielder Kaitlyn Srhoj’s strong performance against the Saints has been rewarded with a nomination as the Telstra AFLW Rising Star for round eight.
The 27-disposal, eight-tackle performance is the latest in a series of strong outings for the West Australian and she joins a small group of players who have been nominated for the prestigious award in two straight seasons.
Srhoj has become an instrumental part of the GIANTS engine room and her outing against the Saints showcased an ability to both quell opposition impact players and surge forward.
The career-high disposal performance highlights how the young star is continuing to step up in the GIANTS midfield and working to fill the void of injured veteran Alyce Parker.
Srhoj’s first Rising Star nomination came in just her third AFLW match in a hard-fought draw with the Suns in round three last season.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW, Alison Zell congratulated Srhoj on her recognition.
“Kaitlyn’s continued improvement and impact at AFLW level this season is something that we’re immensely proud of,” Zell said.
“Since arriving at the GIANTS ahead of the 2024 season, her work rate and contribution to the team both on and off the field has had a marked impact on our group.
“Kaitlyn is a pivotal part of our young core of players, and we believe she is developing into one of the best young midfielders in the league which has been recognised by her second Rising tar nomination in as many seasons.
“We look forward to her continuing to evolve as a player and having a giant impact on the club and the AFLW in seasons to come.”
