The GIANTS are excited to announce that promising young ruck, Logan Smith, has signed a two-year contract extension to remain in the orange and charcoal until at least the end of the 2028 season.

A proud product of the GIANTS Academy, Smith hails from Canberra and is part of a unique ruck trio on the club’s list – alongside Kieren Briggs and Nick Madden, the three are all locally developed talents to have come through the Academy pathway.

After a delayed start to his debut season due to a bout of illness earlier this year, the 18-year-old has been steadily building form in the VFL, sharing the ruck duties alongside Madden.

The athletic young ruck has impressed with his resilience and work ethic throughout the season, continuing to develop his craft and contribute at VFL level.

With strong foundations and plenty of upside, Smith shapes as an exciting long-term prospect for the GIANTS’ ruck division.

Smith’s re-signing further reinforces the club’s commitment to developing and retaining homegrown players who are deeply connected to the region and to its football development programs.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said the club was delighted to re-sign Smith.

“Logan is a terrific example of what our Academy system is all about - identifying and developing local talented players and supporting them as they transition into the AFL environment.

“He’s had some challenges early in his first season but has shown great character and resilience to get back on the park and continue improving.

“We’re really pleased to see him sign on and look forward to his continued growth over the coming years.”

Smith’s commitment is another strong sign of the GIANTS’ investment in local talent and the club’s belief in its next generation of local stars.
