GIANTS fans eager to get their first look at the exciting 2025 AFLW squad will get their chance next month as the club takes part in a pair of exciting pre-season clashes with the Swans and the Blues in Sydney.
The GIANTS will ramp up their pre-season preparations when they welcome the Swans to GIANTS HQ next month, with the crosstown rivals set to go to battle in a match simulation training session at Tom Wills Oval on Friday, July 25 at 1pm.
Similar to last season, the pre-season hit-out between the fierce rivals is listed as a match simulation session, meaning the two clubs will work together to dictate the conditions of the clash, with the GIANTS and the Swans to agree beforehand on the number of players used, the game length, and the number of breaks in the session as they go head-to-head in preparation for the upcoming AFLW season set to start in August.
The GIANTS will take their pre-season preparations to another level a week after the hit out with the Swans, with Cam Bernasconi’s side to host an official AFLW practice match with the Blues at Blacktown International SportsPark on Saturday, August 2 at 12:05pm.
The match, which will be free for all fans to attend, will be the first chance for GIANTS fans to get a first-hand look at their 2025 AFLW lineup which features eight new GIANTS, including exciting number four pick Sara Howley and pick 22, dynamic midfielder Grace Martin.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zell, said the club is excited to have its pre-season games locked in.
“We’re really eager to face both the Swans and Carlton next month as we build towards what promises to be a thrilling 2025 season as we celebrate our 10th season in the competition” Zell said.
“With eight new additions to the squad this year, both the match simulation and practice game will be valuable chances for our talented young group to further strengthen their connections on the field in preparation for the upcoming season.”
“Our AFLW program will also depart for its annual pre-season camp in the coming days which is an exciting time as we look to really set ourselves up for what’s going to be a very exciting 2025 AFLW season.”
Once they’re done with their newly announced pre-season matches, the GIANTS will get their official 2025 AFLW season under way with a historic round one clash with the Bombers in Canberra on Saturday, August 16.
The huge season opener will be the first time the teams have met in the AFLW since Essendon joined the competition in 2022.
